I’m a little late with my update but I figured you’d appreciate the break from my e-mails! I don’t know about you but I STILL burst out into laughter at quite inappropriate times when thoughts of Jan Struck and her antics come to mind. I will never, never be able to find enough words to tell you how much I appreciate all the hard work that all of you put into hosting the district convention. Please, society presidents, be sure to pass along my very heartfelt thanks to your ladies. We received nothing but kind and positive words from everyone who attended.
Mid-South District LWML Convention – Peace in the Valley – Wrap Up
What’s left to say?!
· You each did everything the convention committee asked for and beyond.
· Everyone loved our Lily names, our hair bows, our shirts, YOUR smiles and YOUR “can do” spirit.
· Isn’t Chris McCay a decorator extraordinaire? All the decorations were perfectly suited to our theme.
· Our banner was “sparkly” just like I had hoped – with a beautiful feathery dove too! Thank you Becky Quick from Shepherd of the Hills, Crossville.
· And all those tote bags full of goodies – thanks Pat Dettmer and all the ladies from St. Paul, Sevierville.
· Have you used your “Face of the LWML” mirror? You can thank the ladies from Christ our Savior, Loudon every time you use it! Have you used your mug to have a “cup with Kay?” Be sure to say a thank you to the ladies from Bethlehem, Johnson City for assembling the contents.
· Can you believe those YWRs??? Thank you Sherrie Prien and Victoria Minor for working so closely with the district YWR committee and for helping to make such precious memories.
· Thank you Gretchen Plough for ALL THOSE COOKIES in the worker room – YUM!
· There are countless other thanks that I lift up to God – but especially for being associated with a group of ladies (and gentlemen!) like you.
East TN Zone Retreat – September 21-22 – Sunnybrook Farm
Are you ready for some R.E.S.T.? Well then be sure to mark your calendar for September 21-22 when we will return to Sunnybrook Farm in Walland, TN for our retreat. Let’s keep the momentum going! We had so many ladies involved in the convention who were new to LWML – I would love to see all those very same faces at this retreat! I am attaching the registration form and a flyer which you can copy on brightly colored paper (or e-mail as is). Please be sure to distribute the registration form to all the ladies in your congregation – LWML membership is not a requirement!
LWML Sunday – October 7
The materials for LWML Sunday are now available for ordering. Traditionally, the first Sunday in October is when congregations take time out to recognize the work of the LWML. But, any date is fine – just be sure to order your materials. Everything you need to know is athttp://www.lwml.org/events/lwml_sunday/.
East TN Zone Rally – October 13 – Shepherd of the Hills, Crossville
Many thanks to the ladies at Shepherd of the Hills in Crossville who have agreed to take their turn a year early. Same date but we’ll gather in Crossville instead of Seymour. We will gather at 9:00 CENTRAL TIME (that’s 10:00 Eastern Time) for registration and our meeting will begin promptly at 9:30 CENTRAL TIME.
Everyone on the "To" line of this e-mail (zone officers, zone committee chairs, society presidents) needs to have a report turned in for the rally booklet bySeptember 15 to our zone secretary, Victoria Minor atminor.victoria@ymail.com. Please, if at all possible send as a Word document. If you do not have Word on your computer, then just put the text in an e-mail.
This year we will elect a new President and Vice-President for our zone. Please prayerfully consider who might be willing to serve in that capacity and forward names and contact information to either myself or Gretchen Plough, our nominating committee chairman. Gretchen’s e-mail address isGretNJimG@aol.com.
LWML Convention – June 27-30, 2013 – Pittsburgh, PA
I know it seems VERY far off, however, we need to consider once again whether or not we can fill a charter bus to go to Pittsburgh next June. I looked back at my notes from the Peoria convention and the cost then was $185 if we had a minimum of 25 riders. We asked for a partial deposit of $60 by January of the convention year. I only had 8 confirmed reservations by our deadline. So, please solicit some feedback from your ladies and let me know if there might be more interest this time around and I will contact the bus company for a quote. I believe the distance to Pittsburgh is shorter but prices may have gone up over the last two years too. I don’t have a lot of detail about the costs for the Pittsburgh convention (lodging, meals, etc.) but I have heard that parking costs are astronomical (e.g. $22 per day with no “in/out” privileges). So many of you have experienced a district convention for the first time and thought it was a great experience. Just WAIT until you experience your first national convention! I have had the privilege of hearing some of the guest speakers at prior conventions and, let me tell you, you do NOT want to miss this convention. And, besides, it’s a chance to all wear our polo shirts again!!! Check out the LWML web site athttp://www.lwml.org/conventions/2013-pittsburgh/index.php.
